Regional euthanasia review committees
On 1 April 2002, the Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide (Review Procedures) Act entered into force. The Act provides the statutory basis for the regional euthanasia review committees. These committees consist of a lawyer (who is also the chair), a doctor and an ethicist. Their task is to decide whether in terminating a patient’s life on request or assisting in suicide doctors have acted in accordance with the due care criteria laid down in the Act.
